Mountain man and woman
Our first REAL camping experience and we chose the Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran. We were truly testing our mettle as the temperature was set to fall to minus four degrees overnight .... and it did! But we were prepared with an open fire, down jackets and power for the air con. Camping in style. Garry looks pretty damn comfortable. Note the full moon rising behind him. The photos don't quite capture the beauty of the moment so use your imagination.

Our camp site at Camp Blackman in the cold light of day. It was quite beautiful. We had our first lock-out in the afternoon when the van inextricably locked itself while we were showering! With night rapidly approaching, the intrepid campers devised a way to break in without doing damage. Phew. I was about to become a most unhappy camper.
A 14km hike through the volcanic spires and bluffs, around the Breadknife to Grand High Tops took our breath away - both the ascent and the view. Absolutely superb country. The national park is rebounding after the devastating January 2013 bush fire which almost claimed Siding Springs Observatory.

Now we are staying with our great friends Mally and Ian on their property near Qurindi. Our plucky little van is receiving some TLC - the electric brakes and battery system need adjustment - and then we'll be back on the road. In the meantime, it is wonderful to catch up with Mal and Ian and we had a special treat yesterday - a flight in Ian's gyrocopter looking for stray cattle.
